TS Tidbits – Darwin Day Edition

Happy Darwin Day everyone!  I hope you all have some celebratory plans.  My college is showing The Genius of Charles Darwin, presented by Richard Dawkins, so I’ll be watching that.  Here are some Darwin related tidbits:

  • If you are still looking for some Darwin Day plans, DarwinDay.org has a list of events that are going on around the world.
  • It’s also Abraham Lincoln’s 200th birthday today, and the BBC has a “was it Darwin or Lincoln” quiz.  (I got 8/10)
  • The Origin of Darwin” – A NY Times Op-Ed about Darwin as a hero.
  • Wired has an article about various applications of the theory of evolution.
  • Another NY Times Op-Ed – this one is about how Darwin’s theory has prevailed and become a cornerstone of biology.
  • Lastly (this isn’t so Darwin related but it’s genetics so it counts), Steven Pinker was on the Colbert Report last night.

Darn it! I got a 6/10 in the quiz. Oh, and I saw The Genius of Charles Darwin, and I wish there were certain parts it could have been improved on, oh well.
