Good Without God in Alabama

This is awesome, really really really awesome.

Amanda Gulledge, a friend of mine (who once bought me an awesome double-helix necklace!), has won the United Coalition of Reason’s Good Without God Essay Contest!

She not only deserves to win because she simply is a warm, intelligent, all-around wonderful person, but her essay is also warm, intelligent, and all-around wonderful. It gives you the sort of fuzzy feeling inside you get either by clinging to belief in unicorns, or seeing something which takes away the usual cynicism towards humanity.

Special kudos to the stars of the essay, her boys, who are lucky to have a mother like her. Keep up with the SCIENCE!

So go read it. All of it. It’s only a little under 500 words. GO!

Update: Another example of how awesome Amanda is…

Amanda and Chris Hitchens expressing mutual admiration.

Yeah, I think Amanda deserves honorary Skepchick status.

What a beautiful essay! The stories are both extremely adorable and extremely convincing (on the whole “good without God” point). Congratulations, Amanda!
