Awesome Sauce Music Friday

Awesome Sauce Music Friday! The Galaxy Girl Edition

You guys, I’m so ashamed of myself. I can’t believe I’ve let Awesome Sauce Music Friday go on this long without featuring any of my favorite geeky videos: Schoolhouse Rock.

Schoolhouse Rock aired from 1973-1985, then again from 1993-1999 on Saturday mornings on ABC. It consisted of a series of three minute songs about multiplication, science, grammar, American history, and finance. Schoolhouse Rock taught me the Preamble to the U.S. Constitution. (I can still sing it). I came along just as the program started again in 1993, and it absolutely breaks my heart to think that anyone in the world unfamiliar with these little ditties.

One of my favorite songs is “Interplanet Janet.” It is one of the original 1970s videos, so there are a few out-of-date references (the sun isn’t a gas and Pluto is no longer a planet) but it’s still so delightful I think it’s worth sharing. Enjoy, and happy Friday!
