Awesome Sauce Music Friday! So Unlikely in This Day and Age Edition
If you're anything like me, you have kind of a huge music collection. If you're even more like me, that music collection is primarily located on my computer. Often, music can get lost in the iPod Shuffle. But every once in a while, a forgotten gem will pop back up. And when that happens, I share that song with you. Aren't you lucky?!
This week's song is "22" from Lily Allen's 2009 album It's Not Me, It's You. There is a little controversy about whether the song is meant to be sincere, or whether it's ironic social commentary. I fall on the side of ironic social commentary. (Although I'd love to hear arguments to the contrary in the comments!) It's about a single woman in her 30s and how "society says her life is already over." It's scathing lyrics undercut Allen's snappy Brit-pop sound. I love this song, and I hope you do, too.
