Speak Your Mind: Costume Drama
Halloween was never a big deal at my house. My parents don’t like it and they didn’t want my brother and me wandering the neighborhood begging for candy. That’s not to say we didn’t dress up. We did. After all, we had to participate in the obligatory Halloween school festivities.
But even that was ruined by the Catholic school my brother and I attended. When I was in about 3rd grade the powers that be decided that we good Christian soldiers should not be dressing up as ghouls and goblins (or, as in my case, a bunny) for Halloween. We should only be allowed to dress up as saints, and our Halloween parade would be called the Parade of Saints. So what was an opportunity to dress up in silly outfits became a monolith of sad children in their fathers’ bathrobes.
As you can see, my history with costumes is spotty at best. I need to live vicariously through you.
Do you dress up for Halloween? What is your favorite costume? Do you have a go-to costume year after year, or do you like to mix it up?
