Speak Your Mind: Pontiff Wanted; No Experience Required

This week we’ll see Pope Benedict’s last day in office. (Is it an office? Or a throne? Whatever.) His resignation came as a shock to pretty much everyone several weeks ago. We could speculate wildly about why he chose to resign, but the official story is that Benedict is too frail to continue. Now it’s almost time for the conclave to convene so they can choose a new leader of the Roman Catholic Church. Until then, all we can do is wait.

What do you think will come out of the conclave? Will the sex abuse scandals make any difference? Or will the bishops just say, Screw it! and go get a slice of ‘zza? Or has the Catholic Church lost to much credibility that none of this really matters at all? Also, where can I get a dope Pope-mobile?

I’m guessing more of the same conservative nonsense. Looking at lists of the frontrunners, there are few moderates included, and most of their interests seem to include curtailing sexual rights. There is some possibility of the first black pope, which would be interesting I guess. And unfortunately I do think the choice of pope is still relevant because there’s still a lot of Catholics and a lot of missionaries to places like Africa spreading misinformation.
