Speak Your Mind: You Know What I’m Going to Ask
Unless you’re new to Teen Skepchick (in that case…WELCOME!), you know that we have a bit of a thing for Doctor Who. (Well, at least I do. The rest might just be humoring me.)
Last Sunday, while I was supposed to be writing and doing work, I was feverishly scanning Twitter for news of who will play the 12th Doctor. Will it be a woman? A person of color? Young? Old? WHO IS IT?! And finally the news came. It’s…Peter Capaldi.
Peter Capaldi? I knew he was the frontrunner for the job, but…Peter Capaldi? Don’t get me wrong. I actually totally love Peter Capaldi. I loved him in In the Loop and The Thick of It and (most of all) Torchwood: Children of Earth. Regardless, I have…thoughts.
Here’s the thing I really dislike about this choice. Capaldi has already played a part in the Who-verse. (Two parts, if you count Torchwood, but I’m a little more willing to give that a pass.) He played Caecilius in Doctor Who episode The Fires of Pompeii. This recycling of actors is not unheard of in NuWho; they did it with Martha Jones. Why, BBC? Don’t you have a crop of unknown-yet-talented actors who could use the break?
That said, Hammer of Thor I’m a Capaldi fan. I think if there is any actor that can do anything with the turd of a script Moffat manages to churn out, it’s him.
What do you think of the 12th Doctor? Do you see a different direction coming for that character? Who were you hoping it would be?
