I am skeptical about the effectiveness of the skeptic movement.
I am concerned about the audience (or lack thereof) that the skeptic movement reaches. Let’s face it, most of us seem to be nerds and nerds only seem to attract other nerds. This is not a bad thing, but it is obvious we need to attract a larger and more diverse population if we really want to see positive change in the world. It is old news that we, as a community, are failing to rea... »
Macbeth Directed by Teller and Aaron Posner!
Elles has been hassling me recently—okay, she sent two messages and asked very nicely!—about posting to Teen Skepchick, and who am I to refuse a request? I posted recently about this at my blog (I don’t do comments, but @kf me on Twitter!), but I’m not a fan of cross-posting. She not only deserves to win because she simply is a warm, intelligent, all-around wonderful person, but her essay is also warm, intelligent, and all-around wonderful. It gives you the... »
Tattoos and NECSS teaser
Not to encourage everyone to go get tattoos, but I love Carl Zimmer’s Science Tattoo Emporium. Just sayin’. As I was talking to my advisor the other day, nerd humor is so much about establishing an in-group. You understand my joke, you can be a part of my nerd club. (See: xkcd, smbc both possibly not safe for children). And no, I don’t plan to get a science tattoo. I have been so... »
