Awesome Sauce Music Friday: The Drooling Autotrophs Edition

Today’s edition of Awesome Sauce Music Friday will probably be familiar to  those TV-philes among us. It’s the theme song to The Big Bang Theory, a sweet, nerdy sitcom aired on CBS in the United States. The song is called…uh…The Big Bang Theory Theme, but I’ve also seen it called The History of Everything. Both are pretty accurate descriptions of what the song is about: the history of the universe in less than two minutes.

The song is by Canadian alt-rockers Barenaked Ladies. I heart this band soooo much. One Week was the first song I would listen to on a loop, and I haven’t looked back. That was way back in the 90s(!), and the band still has the combination of clever wit and melancholy I fell in love with. (Although, with much more melancholy after the departure of Steven Page.)

Ah, but I’m yammering too much. Enjoy…

Yay! Hadn’t seen that whole video.

My favourite bit of BNL lyrics is:

If I had a million dollars I would buy you a green dress. But not a real green dress, that’s cruel.

It’s not the official video, because I thought it was a little too self-indulgent. But the featured image is taken from the official vid, so you can watch it by clicking “YouTube” at the bottom of the post.

Also, I think that is everyone’s favorite Barenaked Ladies lyric 🙂 Although there are a few gems in “Bank Job.”
