Happy Birthday Marie Curie!

Marie Curie is awesome, and Google is celebrating her 144th Birthday this Monday with a Google Doodle. Marie Curie was a Polish-born Physicist and Chemist, who became (very deservedly!) famous for her pioneering work in radioactivity, for which she was a Nobel Prize winner twice over, first in 1903 with her husband for their study of spontaneous radiation and then again in 1911.  She also has a bunch of firsts to attach to her name, such as the first woman to win a Nobel Prize, the first person to win a Nobel Prize in two different fields (physics and chemistry), and the first female professor at the University of Paris. She also discovered two elements (polonium and radium) and coined the term “radioactivity.”

So here is to Marie Curie, one of the greatest scientists ever!

A scientist in his laboratory is not a mere technician: he is also a child confronting natural phenomena that impress him as though they were fairy tales.
