What is consent?

There’s an absolutely fabulous article over at Role/Reboot about what it means to be a male victim of rape. The main claim is that an erection is not consent and that a man can be raped even if they are in a relationship with their raper. Additionally, it calls for more awareness of the issues of sexual assault pertaining to men. I know this issue often gets overlooked as a “what about teh menz” cry, but the numbers speak for themselves: 1 in 71 men are victims of rape or attempted rape. That means this is a real problem, and the lack of dialogue about it is a problem. As ladies, we can make a difference not raping (pretty simple) and discussing with our friends what consent means. Let’s make this a topic that can be discussed.
