Speak Your Mind: The Simple Things

For reasons I don’t quite comprehend, my boyfriend has been shopping or a new yo-yo. Surprisingly, a simple, classic yo-yo was pretty hard to find. He looked at game and toy stores all over town to no avail. He was beginning to think that the yo-yos of his youth were an extinct species.

But lo! Last weekend, while perusing the Easter candy aisle at a local Dillons, there it was. A bright, shiny, green Duncan yo-yo. Yays! Sometimes, in a world of Playstation Vitas and iPhones, the simple things are just the best. (Although, I’m more of a Slinky girl.)

Is there a low-tech toy you can’t live without? Do you do anything to get your eyes away from a screen, or is that a crazy Luddite idea?

I play violin, or guitar, or my bass to get away from my computer. Or I do chores, which I find myself enjoying more and more. (Crazy, but definitely gets things done.)
I also occasionally fold origami, but that's more my boyfriend's thing than mine. Recently I got into papercraft, which is fun if you find designs you like. So, paper is my low-tech toy. 😀

Paper airplanes. I'm terrible at making my own, but I had a book of instructions for really neat ones (fighter jets and the like), and as much as I've looked since I gave it away, I've never found anything like it.

I cannot for the life of me think of anything your boyfriend could be doing or saying to make those options equally likely to explain it.
