Speak Your Mind: Lady News

Recently, at least in the United States, reproductive rights have consistently been in the headlines. The fight for reproductive rights now encompasses not only abortion, but access to birth control as well. This is an incredibly important issue, to be sure, and one that is relevant to most women for decades of their lives.

But sometimes I can't help but think that reproductive rights is the only women's rights issue I hear about. Other relevant feminist discussions can get pushed to the sidelines. Part of this is totally understandable; reproducitive rights are in the news via Repubican presidential candidates and "Obamacare." But still, I wonder what I'm missing.

What are some feminist issues you wish were discussed more in the media? Is there a women's issue that is close to your heart? If so, what is it?

Well here in South Africa we are faced with harrassment due to the way we dress. This has become quite an issue of late even prompting a march through the CBD by the ANC womans league. As you will see from the article this was prompted by men groping some ladies dressed in mini skirts at a taxi rank  http://www.iol.co.za/news/south-africa/gauteng/mini-skirts-paralyse-joburg-1.1237224
Regardless of what women decide to wear, men should not see this as an invitation and need to learn to control themselves.
