Awesome Sauce Music Friday! Dehydration Synthesis is Underway! Edition

Is it too late for a “Gangnam Style” parody? Yeah…it’s way too late. I don’t even care. I have a bit of a soft spot for nerdy, cheesey, low-ish quality YouTube videos that teach science. I can’t help it. I mean, what better use of the Internet is there?

I have no idea who the person who wrote and performed this particular “Gangnam Style” parody – called “Molecules Gone Wild (Bio Style) – but according to YouTube he is a high school science teacher called Mr. Hsu. In laying out his reasons for creating the video, he writes:

This song and video have been made solely for educational purposes. Its level of depth and detail into various macromolecules (biomolecules) are aimed at High School Biology students (at least the ones I teach). If you find errors or omissions (i.e. I didn’t discuss enzymes), this is due to the fact that I’m trying to make a song that appeals to students, AND I’m being constrained by describing a relatively complex topic through a highly repetitive song that was originally written in Korean.

Of course, a big reason for making this video was to perform the dance and film it.

You, sir, get a gold star for awesome.

Happy Friday, everyone!
