Update: El Salvador will allow Beatriz to get a life-saving abortion.

I was relieved to hear that FINALLY they’re going to do something so that she can live, but I knew before she even read the follow up that it was going to happen in the most ass-backwards way possible.

I think it is an unqualified good that Beatriz now has a real shot at living. I think it is such a heavily qualified good on the part of the state that I’m not sure I would even call it a good at this point. They’ve completely wrecked her quality of life (certainly temporarily) while also actively endangering her life. Then to opt for the most invasive, physically risky, physically damaging option to save her life (which will, again, be detrimental to her quality of life) is such an abhorrent abuse of reason and justification of contemptible ideas that I can only continue to feel sympathy for Beatriz and angry at the structures in place that only recently have reluctantly decided that passively killing her was too much bad publicity and the people operating those structures who have shown no compassion

All that said, thank you for the follow up. I’m at least relieved she can have a chance to live..
