Speak Your Mind: E3

This week is a big one for video game fans and journalists. It’s E3. I don’t pay that much attention, but from what I can tell this just a big ol’ video game conference at which all the video game companies announce all their big new stuff. (Nintendo is a notable absence at this year’s E3, but whatever.)

The big news (other than Microsoft’s rape-y banter) has been the announcements of Microsoft’s Xbox One and Sony’s Playstation 4. And, as I understand it, the sparks flew.

It may sound like hyperbole, but what took place over the course of the day will send shockwaves through this entire next console generation. Sony is now simply in a position to dominate Microsoft when both the Playstation 4 and the Xbox One launch side by side this year. They weren’t content to merely watch Microsoft stumble, rather this was a targeted effort to directly humiliate their competition in a way that’s seldom been seen in this market before.

Who knew what basically amounts to a glitzy press event could get so down and dirty?

So far, from friends who know more about this stuff than I do, Sony is “winning” E3 (whatever that means). It looks like the Playstation will be $100 cheaper, and Xbox One makes it way hard to trade in games and always has to be connected to the Internet. This isn’t playing so well with a lot of the gamers I know. CNet has a pretty good comparison of the two systems, but I want your take.

Who is “winning” E3? What do you think of the new Xbox and Playstation systems? Are you even paying attention to it? Are there any games you’re excited about?
